SHAH ALAM: A mechanic who was in a coma for more than a week after his motorcycle crashed, allegedly while being chased by a group of stray dogs at Taman Teluk Gedung Indah, is now facing the possibility of permanent brain injury. However, the victim, Muhamad Shahrul Yuzzi Che Ahmad, 27, has been discharged from hospital after undergoing surgery but continues to experience memory difficulties and requires constant monitoring from his family. His sister, Rozaini Che Ahmad, 43, said doctors had informed the family that Muhamad Shahrul may have suffered permanent brain injuries and may not fully return to his previous condition. “Alhamdulillah, he is now able to walk, speak and eat on his own, but his memory is still affected. “Sometimes he remembers, sometimes he forgets, and at times he says things that do not make sense,” she said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Monday. According to Rozaini, the incident occurred between midnight and 1.00 am on 13 July when Muhamad Shahrul was riding his motorcycle home from a shop and was believed to have been chased by a group of stray dogs. She said he lost control of the motorcycle before falling and suffering severe head injuries that required emergency surgery. “The doctor informed us that there was a significant amount of bleeding in his head and his survival chances at that time were only 50 per cent. The family was then asked to make an immediate decision to proceed with the surgery. “After the operation, he was placed under sedation and only regained consciousness about a week later,” she said. Rozaini said her elderly mother was deeply distressed while witnessing her youngest child among seven siblings undergoing treatment. “My mother often cried and sat silently beside his hospital bed. We siblings took turns caring for him and providing support throughout his treatment. “When this happened, it affected not only our family’s emotional well-being but also our finances and health,” she said. Rozaini hopes that the issue of stray dogs in the residential area will be addressed immediately to prevent similar incidents from happening again. “I myself was once chased by four dogs while riding a motorcycle with my young child and my friend’s five-year-old child. “Our neighbours have also experienced being chased. I hope the authorities will take appropriate action so that there will be no more victims,” she said. Rozaini added that the family has accepted what happened and remains grateful that Muhamad Shahrul survived and continues to recover. “Most importantly, Allah has given my brother more time, and we pray that he will recover and return to his former health,” she said. Muhamad Shahrul is currently undergoing recovery after the motorcycle accident, which was believed to have occurred after he was chased by stray dogs at Taman Teluk Gedung Indah on 13 July. |
