SHAH ALAM, 24 OCT: Homeowners in Klang who adopt environmentally friendly practices throughout this year may be eligible for assessment tax rebates of up to RM900 in 2027.
Klang Mayor, Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain, said the incentive covers the installation of solar panels, recycling activities and the use of electric vehicles (EVs), as reported by The Star.
He explained that an assessment of green practices implemented between January and December 2026 would be conducted before rebates are granted to eligible applicants.
“This is the first time MBDK has introduced such an initiative. Following the assessment, eligible taxpayers will receive rebates on their assessment tax for 2027,” he said.
He added that applicants must ensure their properties are located within the administrative jurisdiction of the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK), have no outstanding assessment tax arrears and provide supporting documents for verification.
According to Abd Hamid, the one-off rebate aims to encourage more residents to adopt sustainable lifestyles, in line with efforts to transform Klang into a smart, low-carbon city.
The initiative forms part of the State Government's measures announced under the Selangor Budget 2026 to promote the adoption of green technologies in residential areas.
Selangor Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, announced assessment tax rebates of up to 100 per cent for homeowners who meet the prescribed environmentally friendly criteria.
The State Government also announced an allocation of RM1 million for each of the four city councils, including MBDK, to support the implementation of the initiative.
The incentive was subsequently strengthened under the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package Phase 2 in June, with the allocation increased to RM1.5 million for each city council.
Meanwhile, Abd Hamid said MBDK would launch a lucky draw campaign from 1 November to 31 December 2026 to encourage early assessment tax payments and the full settlement of outstanding arrears through the MBDK iPay portal.
A total of 65 major prizes will be offered to eligible taxpayers, including a Honda Vario motorcycle, electric scooters, smartphones and gold bars.
The campaign is among MBDK's efforts to encourage timely assessment tax payments while recognising taxpayers who fulfil their responsibilities.
