SHAH ALAM, 31 JULY – Kota Bridge is set to be developed as a new attraction that is expected to further expand the tourism sector in Klang, in line with the opening of the Shah Alam Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) stations. Klang Mayor Dato’ Abdul Hamid Hussain said the development of the historic area is expected to attract more visitors following improvements in public transportation connectivity. He said among the initial programmes held at Kota Bridge was the Festival Merakyatkan Seni Warisan Akar Umbi Laman Santai 2026, which was launched last week. “This festival serves as a platform for the community from various backgrounds to come together. It allows us to appreciate each other’s cultures while strengthening the spirit of unity. “The selection of Kota Bridge as the venue is appropriate. With the availability of LRT3 stations, this historic area has great potential to become a community-based tourism product capable of attracting more visitors. “Various activities are provided, including handicraft sales, food offerings and other attractions that benefit local entrepreneurs, artists, small traders and the local economy,” he told Media Selangor. Abdul Hamid said MBDK is also open to collaborating with external parties to strengthen and further enhance urban tourism development. He said such efforts are in line with the aspiration to transform Klang into a city that is not only progressive in terms of physical development but also rich in cultural values, history and community identity. “We have established collaborations with external parties to organise VolunHeritage @ Jambatan Kota Klang, which takes place weekly. “The programme combines heritage, arts, tourism, environmental awareness and community participation within the same space,” he said. Earlier this month, Abdul Hamid said the opening of the Shah Alam LRT3 line is expected to become a new catalyst for the tourism sector in the Royal Town of Klang. The Shah Alam LRT3 Line, which began operations on 29 June, connects Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya to Johan Setia in Klang, further strengthening the public transportation network in western Selangor. |
