KLANG – The MBDK Hockey Stadium at the Pandamaran Sports Complex was officially inaugurated today following the completion of its RM8 million upgrading project. The upgraded stadium stands as a symbol of the Royal City Council of Klang's (MBDK) commitment to strengthening world-class sports infrastructure in the Royal Town of Klang. It is also one of the official venues for the 22nd Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026, which will take place next month. MBDK Mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said the upgrading project not only enhances the quality of sports facilities but also serves as a catalyst for sports talent development, the hosting of prestigious tournaments and the growth of the local economy. “The stadium upgrade was successfully completed on 1 July at a total cost of RM8 million. “This allocation should not be regarded merely as an expenditure, but as a strategic investment that will deliver long-term benefits to sports development and the local economy. “We believe that quality sports facilities can promote a healthy lifestyle, support youth development, strengthen community unity and provide a platform for nurturing athletes capable of competing on the world stage,” he said during the official opening ceremony of the upgraded pitch and facilities at the MBDK Hockey Stadium, Pandamaran Sports Complex. Abd Hamid added that the stadium had also received a three-year certification from the International Hockey Federation (FIH), effective from 3 July, marking a significant milestone for MBDK. He said the certification not only reflects international recognition but also confirms that the MBDK Hockey Stadium meets global standards and is fully equipped to host world-class hockey tournaments while fulfilling the technical requirements for live television broadcasts. “In addition to a Poligras Platinum synthetic turf, electronic scoreboard and high-performance floodlighting system, the stadium also features upgraded facilities including changing rooms, new restrooms, a VIP lounge and other supporting amenities, all maintained to the highest standard. “The stadium has a seating capacity of 1,300 spectators and provides 160 parking bays, comprising 40 spaces within the stadium compound and 120 spaces outside the venue. “More importantly, this recognition will serve as a catalyst for the Royal Town of Klang to emerge as a national and international hockey hosting hub, contributing to local economic growth, the development of sports tourism and strengthening the city's international profile,” he said. Meanwhile, Abd Hamid stressed that the true success of the stadium should not be measured solely by the quality of its infrastructure, but by its ability to nurture talented athletes, encourage an active and healthy society and serve as a platform for community unity. “I hope the MBDK Hockey Stadium will become a respected centre for hockey development, not only in Selangor but also at the national and international levels. “Even more importantly, I hope this field will produce a new generation of national hockey players who will bring pride to Klang and Malaysia on the world stage,” he said. |
