KLANG – The MBDK (Royal City Council of Klang) Hockey Stadium at the Pandamaran Sports Complex was officially inaugurated today following the completion of its RM8 million upgrading project. The upgraded stadium stands as a symbol of MBDK's commitment to strengthening world-class sports infrastructure in the Royal Town of Klang. It is also one of the official venues for the 22nd Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026, which will take place next month. MBDK Mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said the upgrading project not only enhances the quality of sports facilities but also serves as a catalyst for sports talent development, the hosting of prestigious tournaments and local economic growth. “The stadium upgrade was fully completed on 1 July at a total cost of RM8 million. “This allocation should not be viewed merely as an expenditure, but as a strategic investment that will deliver long-term benefits to sports development and the local economy. “We believe that quality sports facilities can promote a healthy lifestyle, support youth development, strengthen community unity and provide a platform for producing athletes capable of competing on the world stage,” he said during the official opening ceremony of the upgraded pitch and facilities at the MBDK Hockey Stadium, Pandamaran Sports Complex. Abd Hamid said it was especially encouraging that the stadium had received a three-year certification from the International Hockey Federation (FIH), effective from 3 July. He said the recognition confirms that the MBDK Hockey Stadium meets international standards and is fully equipped to host world-class hockey tournaments while meeting the technical requirements for live television broadcasts. “In addition to its Poligras Platinum synthetic turf, electronic scoreboard and high-performance floodlighting system, all stadium facilities have been maintained in excellent condition. “The stadium has a seating capacity of 1,300 spectators and provides 160 parking spaces, further strengthening the Royal Town of Klang's aspiration to become a national and international hub for hockey events,” he said. |
