The Royal City Council of Klang (MBDK) Hockey Stadium at the Pandamaran Sports Complex, which recently underwent an RM8 million upgrade, has been officially recognised by the International Hockey Federation (FIH), further strengthening its status as one of the main venues for the 22nd Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026. Officially inaugurated on Tuesday, the stadium stands as a symbol of MBDK's commitment to enhancing world-class sports infrastructure in the Royal Town of Klang ahead of the SUKMA Games, which will take place next month. MBDK Mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said the upgrading project not only enhances the quality of sports facilities but also serves as a catalyst for athlete development, the hosting of prestigious tournaments and the growth of the local economy. According to him, the stadium upgrade was fully completed on 1 July, at a total cost of RM8 million. “This allocation should not be viewed merely as an expenditure, but as a strategic investment that will deliver long-term benefits to both sports development and the local economy. “We believe that high-quality sports facilities can promote a healthier lifestyle, support youth development, strengthen community unity and provide a platform for producing athletes capable of competing on the world stage,” he said during the official opening ceremony of the upgraded pitch and facilities at the MBDK Hockey Stadium, Pandamaran Sports Complex. Abd Hamid said it was particularly encouraging that the stadium received FIH certification for a three-year period effective 3 July, confirming that it meets international standards. He said the recognition enables the MBDK Hockey Stadium to host international-level hockey tournaments while also meeting the technical requirements for live television broadcasting. “In addition to a Poligras Platinum synthetic turf, the stadium is equipped with an electronic scoreboard and high-quality floodlighting system that complies with international competition specifications. “The stadium has a seating capacity of 1,300 spectators and provides 160 parking bays, reinforcing our aspiration to position the Royal Town of Klang as a national and international hockey hosting hub,” he said. |
