KLANG – The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) continues to strengthen the international recognition of Klang Royal City through the participation of Klang Mayor, Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain, in the UCLG ASPAC Council, Haikou 2026, held in Hainan, China.

During the event's main forum, Abd Hamid delivered a presentation entitled “Klang Royal City: Balancing Port Growth with a Green, Smart and Inclusive Future”, highlighting a balanced, sustainable, smart and inclusive approach to urban development.

The presentation also highlighted the strategic position of Port Klang as Malaysia's main maritime gateway, as well as its significant role in the shipping, logistics, container handling, industrial and international trade sectors.

In terms of urban development planning, MBDK highlighted the Klang Royal City Local Plan 2035 (Amendment 1), which takes into account developments in the industrial sector, including more than 36 industrial areas and new areas currently under development.

At the same time, environmental sustainability remains a key priority through the implementation of the Low Carbon City Action Plan, river clean-up programmes and community participation.

These efforts are also supported by strategic collaborations and strengthened governance through certification under the ISO 37001:2016 Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS).

Abd Hamid emphasised that economic growth and industrial development must be balanced with environmental conservation and community well-being to ensure that Klang Royal City remains competitive and liveable.

MBDK's participation in the UCLG ASPAC Council, Haikou 2026 serves as a platform to showcase Klang Royal City's potential to the international community.

It also creates opportunities for sharing experiences and best practices in urban development, particularly in sustainability, the adoption of smart approaches and social inclusivity.

MBDK remains committed to strengthening urban planning, improving the quality of municipal services and driving development that benefits residents and future generations.
