KLANG: The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) continues to strengthen the international recognition of Klang Royal City through the participation of Klang Mayor, Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain, in the UCLG ASPAC Council 2026 Conference held in Haikou, Hainan, China.
During the conference's main forum, Abd Hamid delivered a presentation entitled “Klang Royal City: Balancing Port Growth with a Green, Smart and Inclusive Future”, highlighting a balanced, sustainable, smart and inclusive approach to urban development.
The presentation highlighted the strategic position of Port Klang as Malaysia's main maritime gateway and its vital role in the shipping, logistics, container handling and international trade sectors.
According to Abd Hamid, MBDK is currently guided by the Klang Royal City Local Plan 2035 (Amendment 1), which takes into account developments in the industrial sector, including more than 36 existing industrial areas and new industrial zones currently under development.
"Economic growth and industrial development must be balanced with environmental conservation and community well-being to ensure that Klang Royal City remains competitive and liveable.
"This balanced development approach is essential to ensure that residents benefit from economic progress without compromising sustainability for future generations," he said.
He added that MBDK prioritises environmental sustainability through the implementation of the Low Carbon City Action Plan, river clean-up programmes and active community participation.
These efforts are further strengthened through integrity-based governance, supported by certification under the ISO 37001:2016 Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS).
Participation in this international conference not only serves as a platform to showcase Klang's potential to the world but also creates opportunities to share best practices in smart and inclusive urban development.
