KLANG – The increasing number of stray dogs in Taman Teluk Gedung Indah, here, has allegedly nearly claimed the life of a young man who was left in a coma for more than a week after his motorcycle crashed while being chased by a group of stray dogs recently. The incident occurred between midnight and 1.00 a.m. on 13 July, when the victim, in his 20s, was on his way home after purchasing food from a nearby shop. A resident who wished to be known as Ahmad, in his 40s, said the victim was chased by approximately six stray dogs for nearly 100 metres before losing control of his motorcycle while passing over a speed bump, causing him to fall and suffer a severe head impact on the road surface. “Nearby residents immediately chased away the dogs before providing assistance to the victim. “Due to serious head injuries, the victim was in a coma for more than a week and had to undergo surgery to remove a blood clot in his head at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital,” he said when contacted by Kosmo!. According to Ahmad, the victim has since regained consciousness and has been transferred to a ward but remains under medical treatment and close observation by the medical team. Ahmad claimed that the stray dog issue in the residential area has persisted for almost two years, raising concerns over residents’ safety. “It is not only the victim who has experienced this. I myself have also been chased by stray dogs. Residents live in fear every day, especially children and senior citizens who walk outside or go to the surau. “Although there have been no reported cases of dog bites so far, this incident proves that stray dogs can still pose a serious threat and lead to tragedy,” he said. He added that following the incident, he lodged complaints with the Royal City Council of Klang (MBDK) Councillor and the State Legislative Assembly Representative’s Office to urge immediate action on the stray dog issue in the area. “I hope stray dog capture operations will be intensified to prevent similar incidents from happening again and to ensure greater safety for residents,” he said. Commenting on the recent commotion during a stray dog capture operation, which resulted in the death of a dog, Ahmad claimed that the animal was believed to have an owner but was allowed to roam freely and disturb public safety. “Most owned dogs are either restrained or kept within their owners’ premises. I do not understand why the dog was allowed to roam freely,” he said. Earlier, Kosmo! reported that a stray dog capture operation by MBDK at Jalan Sama Gagah 20 turned chaotic when an individual allegedly threatened enforcement officers with a knife and obstructed the operation. |
