Klang: Women are urged to take a proactive role in channeling complaints and suggestions to local authorities (PBT) to ensure more inclusive urban development that truly meets community needs. Selangor State Executive Councillor for Women’s Development and Social Welfare, Anfaal Saari, said that women at the community level have a high sensitivity to local issues such as infrastructure damage, public safety, and basic amenities. She said that input from women’s perspectives is very important in helping local authorities formulate policies and implement development that is more responsive and effective. “For example, issues like potholes, ramps beside drains, and safety at playgrounds or pedestrian walkways. They usually accompany their children playing at the field, so when they see and are more aware, they can channel this constructively to the PBT. “In PBT administration, areas are divided into zones, each with its own council members. If the PBT has communication channels such as WhatsApp, email, or phone lines, they should submit [their feedback] immediately,” she said at the Recycling Sale Program held in conjunction with Women’s Month celebration by the Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) at Dewan Hamzah here recently. Anfaal also emphasized the importance for women to utilize the proper channels to deliver any feedback to ensure that follow-up action can be taken efficiently. Meanwhile, MBDK Women’s Development Program Patron, Datin Jamaliah, informed that MBDK has provided a gender-inclusive park at the Pandamaran Sports Complex. According to her, the facility aims to create a safe, friendly, and inclusive recreational environment for all segments of society regardless of gender, age, or ability, reflecting MBDK’s commitment to supporting gender equality principles. Earlier, MBDK Mayor, Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain, stated that the urban sustainability agenda continues to be prioritized through the organization of the MBDK Sustainable Community Awards to balance social, economic, and environmental aspects in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). |
