WANITA DIGESA PROAKTIF SALUR ADUAN, PEMBANGUNAN BANDAR LEBIH INKLUSIF

KLANG, March 31: Women are urged to be more proactive in channeling complaints and suggestions to local authorities (PBT) to ensure urban development is more inclusive and meets the real needs of the community.

State Executive Councillor for Women’s Development and Social Welfare, Anfaal Saari, said that women at the community level have a high sensitivity to local issues such as damaged infrastructure, safety in public areas, and basic facilities.

According to her, input from women’s perspectives is important in helping PBT formulate policies and implement development that is more responsive and effective.

“For example, potholes, ramps by drains, safety at playgrounds or safety on pedestrian walkways. These are people who usually accompany their children to play in the field; when they see and are more aware, they can channel it constructively to the PBT.

“For instance, within PBT administration there are areas divided by zones, each with its own council member. If the PBT has communication channels such as WhatsApp, email, or phone lines, they should use them,” she said.

She was met after the Recycling Sale Program held in conjunction with Women’s Month celebrations by the Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) at Dewan Hamzah here today.

According to her, it is important for women to make use of the proper channels to convey complaints, suggestions, and views to ensure follow-up actions can be taken.

“So in my view, perhaps through forums or events like this, we can publicize the proper channels that should be used to submit complaints, suggestions, or input from women’s perspectives,” she said.

Meanwhile, MBDK Women’s Development Program Patron Datin Jamaliah said that MBDK provides a gender-inclusive park at the Pandamaran Sports Complex to create a safe, friendly, and inclusive recreational environment for all segments of society regardless of gender, age, or ability.

“The provision of these facilities reflects MBDK’s ongoing commitment to strengthening community well-being and supporting the principle of gender equality in urban development,” she said in her speech at the program.

Previously, MBDK Mayor Dato’ Abd Hamid Hussain said that the local authority continues to prioritize urban sustainability, among others through organizing the MBDK Sustainable Community Awards.

According to Abd Hamid, this is to balance social, economic, and environmental development in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
